About the Water Carnival
Get ready to dive into one of Minnesota’s longest-running and most beloved summer traditions—the Detroit Lakes Jaycees' Northwest Water Carnival! Since 1935(yes, even back when phones had cords), this fun-filled festival has been making waves in the lakes area. With activities for all ages, it’s grown into the can't-miss event of the summer.

Though it hit a speed bump in 1937 and took a little nap during COVID in 2020, the Water Carnival has splashed its way back every year, bigger and better. Now, it's a jam-packed 10-day extravaganza featuring over 60 events! Kicking off Friday, July 11th, 2025 with "Kegs and Eggs" (because, who doesn’t love that combo?) at the Pavilion, and wrapping up with the ever-popular Parade of the Northwest on Sunday, July 20th—trust us, this is the place to be. Behind the scenes, the all-volunteer Detroit Lakes Jaycees—led by the mysterious "Admirals"—are the masterminds keeping the Carnival afloat. After the parade, these local legends gather to find out who’ll be crowned the next Admiral. It’s top secret until the big reveal, and the guessing game keeps everyone on their toes.

Drumroll, please… the new Admirals for 2025 have been chosen! We’re thrilled to announce that Tyler Tretbar and April Asleson will be steering the ship this year. So, if you’re looking for fun, sun, a little intrigue, and a dash of local fame, mark your calendars and come join us at the Northwest Water Carnival, July 11th-20th, 2025!
